Malls and Editing
This week went very well for editing. I got through this week’s goals. A rhythm that appears to be working for me right now is editing on paper for the first half of the week and then moving those edits back to the computer in the second half of the week.
The results are that Thunder Gate Arcade, Underwater Cavern, and Volcano Vendor are final. I also retouched Dinas the Destroyer.
It’s a lot of fun to be able to go back and still laugh at the dialog, especially in the case of Underwater Cavern.
When I’ve done this correctly, I get Sunday to relax! I’m trying hard to keep Sundays free of tasks so that it is possible to rest. Being a functioning and productive adult in society is hard work and stick to the other six days of the week.
As I’m getting closer to the end of these short stories, I’m seeing the quality of the first draft dropping considerably. This is leading to a lot of re-writing in the paper edits. But definitely for the better when I’m done. These last stories were literally being posted as soon as I finished typing them up back in April. I had just run out of time and buffer to stay ahead. So they were not even getting a second glance before going online. Yessh. It shows.
This week, as from the header image, I’ve started collecting pictures of the local malls while I do some research as to what I’m looking for for a book cover. I’ll have a write up on this research hopefully in the next two weeks.
I’m beginning to keep track of time and word counts per story, and its turning out that on average, it’s taking about two hours per short story to finish it up. I didn’t keep track of all of this for all the stories so I only have limited information to extrapolate from.
Between the last four shorts that need full editing, and the handful that I need to review one more time, I hope to have these all finalized in the next two weeks. In random news, I bought 7 colored pens. Now I can edit in COLOR.
November is coming up and I’ll have to start prepping for this year’s NaNoWriMo. I have no idea what I will be doing yet this year. Hopefully October won’t try to smother me with tasks.
Goals:
- E-publish MacSweeny’s Short stories before November.
- Get back on Track with Weavers, Book 1. (this won’t be happening before November now. Let’s be realistic)
- Fix this blog up something nice. I have no idea what yet.
MacSweeny’s Maniacal Material Market: Short Stories of Employee Mayhem.
- 22 / 26 edited
- 1/26 reviewed
- 14/26 final
- Next week’s goal: Welcome, Xylosma Invasion, Yesterday
Word Log:
- Story: 0
- Shorts: 0
- Other: 406
- Editing: 656
- Time: 8 hours, 1 minute

Nice job with the editing! Glad you’re getting into a rhythm with it – that always helps. 🙂
The only thing that could possibly disrupt it now is… NaNo or Moving!
